Reggae superstar Etana is pushing ahead with the promotion of her single, My Man, which was recorded with producer DJ Frass on his independent label, DJ Frass Records.
“When I was getting ready to write the song, Tarrus (Riley), asked me, ‘Wah would yu man want to hear?’, and I said: “My man would want to know that I honoured and appreciated him, and that sentiment is expressed in the song,” she said. “I also want to counteract the bad that was emerging in Jamaica with that perception that men were rapists, perverts, and abusers. I want to uplift and elevate the good side of men.”
Etana believes that the media and other members of civil society are often only too willing to vilify males.
Etana, who is now an independent reggae artiste following her recent release from record label VP Records, believes My Man will be a great barometer by which to judge her relevance in the marketplace.
“The song is already being played on IRIE FM, and we will be moving to get it in the streets via mix tapes and street selectors this week … . People are already asking for it,” she said.
